This was a conversation on business start-up. Attendees were residents from 5 Direct Provision Centres (The Montague Hotel, Emo, The Hibernian Hotel, Abbeyleix, The Commercial Inn, Rathdowney, The Hazel Hotel, Monasterevin, and Eyre Powell, New Bridge), with a few new members of the Laois Community under the refugee resettlement programme. Some of the challenges identified in setting up business were; Knowledge on setting up and Staff recruitment; Lack of finance; Networking; Mentoring; and Clear Objectives. There was a lot of enthusiasm in the room. Attendees found the conversation informative; positive; gave hope; inspiring; good used of time. The business ideas in the room were; Farming; Hair salon / hair products braiding (E-commerce); Fashion Design and Beautician /Hair Salon/ Wig making/ Nail Technician; Restaurant; Catering and Event Management Knitting; Coffee shop; Day Care; Clothing line/ event organising; Massage parlour; Construction / Painting; Dog Housing; Tourism; Media/Community Radio; Digital Marketing.
